Edwina mosaic for Art Unleashed

Every year I donate a piece of artwork to Art Unleashed, an art auction to benefit the Kansas City Humane Society.

This year, I will make a mosaic of my cat, Edwina.  The high bidder will have the option to take this mosaic, or exchange it for a custom portrait of the pet of their choice.

I kinda hope they opt for the custom mosaic, I'm getting a little attached to this one...

It's made of stained glass, the background will be red.

Of Muppets and Writers...

I had so much fun working on the mosaic of Will that I decided to continue with the writer theme and make a mosaic of Emily Bronte. So things wouldn't get too serious I thought she could be with Oscar the Grouch, my personal favorite of the pre-Muppet Show muppets. Oh, and they should be winding a hank of yarn. I enjoy knitting, so why shouldn't they?

Since the mosaic is already well underway, I will post the WIP pictures I have taken, trying my best to keep them in some kind of chronological order, beginning with:

of proportion with the amount of yarn left to wind, but we won't think about that...

Now here's something... I've never used stained glass in a mosaic (Wasser excluded) until now. I decided to incorporate some into this piece, as well as unglazed porcelain.

Here is Emily with stained glass-

And with a great leap forward, both figures finished. I decided to make the trash can in linework, I didn't want it to be that important. I have an idea of what I'm going to do for the background...stay tuned.

Apple Lady

This is The Apple Lady, the first of 101 mosaics I am doing based on the doodles from my friends' sketchbooks.  This one comes from Sarah A., and I thought it was fun because the apple stem looks like cleavage.

All of the mosaics are 12x12, with an inch and a half wrap around to the side, (I will try to get a picture posted to show what I mean).  This is not grouted yet, I dislike grouting so I am putting this off.

Meet my friend, Will.

This is my most recent finished mosaic, done for a friend (click on the image to see it bigger).  The quote is done in Orsoni's gold smalti, about 5 different shades in all. The frame was found on Ebay.
